Announcements and Special Events

I’ve been trying to get a newsletter done for a while, but I’ve been a bit distracted because … I’m a new grandma!!!!  My daughter gave birth to Benjamin last Wednesday.  He was 21 inches long, almost 9 lbs, and cute, cute, cute, cute (as you can see by his pictures).  Benjamin and Mom and Dad are doing great.  In case you couldn’t tell, this is my first grandchild!

It’s time once more for our annual Christmas Stocking Challenge
Here’s how it works:
•    You purchase a kit from Thistle Dew containing two Christmas fabrics and a Christmas stocking pattern for $3.00.  (We will use all of the $3.00 toward the purchase of the candy and toys.)
•    Using the pattern and fabrics, plus anything else you want to add (more fabric, buttons, sequins, etc.), you will make a Christmas stocking using your amazing imagination and creativity and bring the stocking back to Thistle Dew by Monday, November 21.
•    We will hang all the stockings in the store, and customers will vote for their favorite stockings Nov 22 – Dec 5.   (Stockings will be identified by number only.)

On December 6, we’ll announce the three winners.  The prizes are:
•    1st Place:   $50 Thistle Dew Gift Certificate
•    2nd Place:  $30 Thistle Dew Gift Certificate
•    3rd Place:   $20 Thistle Dew Gift Certificate

We’ll once again fill the stockings with candy and toys and give them to the Sacramento Children’s Home (CASA).  CASA staff tells me each year how much the kids love getting something homemade at Christmas.  We would love to have your help.  This is a great opportunity to show your creativity and support a wonderful organization.

Claire Gliddon has been the Sacramento Chapter Coordinator for Project Linus for 20 years, and she is now also the Northern California distribution point for Knitted Knockers.  If you’re not familiar with the Knitted Knockers organization, they knit soft, comfortable knit prosthetics for breast cancer survivors and provide them free of charge.  You can find more information on their website:  If you would like to knit some of these, patterns are available on their website.  If you don’t knit or crochet, a donation for materials and postage would be greatly appreciated.  Please contact Claire at or 916-965-8955 to arrange for pickup of your knitted knockers or to make a donation.

Classes and Groups

We know you’re starting to think about Christmas gifts, and we have some wonderful new classes scheduled in the next months, taught by Annemieke York, that will help you create beautiful, usable handmade gifts in very little time.  There’s Sweetpea Pod, Big Lacie Bag, and Re-usable Tote.  Click on the picture below for more information on the class.

Also, Sue Rohrke will be teaching her Sunflower Wallhanging in January at Thistle Dew, and we have a new Beginning Quilting teacher with her own quilt design – Kari MacDonald.  Click here for descriptions/pictures of all of our classes and groups: Thistle Dew Classes & Groups
