CLASS CANCELLATION POLICY:  

To reserve a place in a class, the class fee must be paid at the time you register.  Thistle Dew Quilt Shoppe (TDQS) reserves the right to cancel a class if the required minimum enrollment is not met.  Earliest notification will be given and the participant may choose either a full refund or a TDQS credit.  

If a student cannot attend a class, for whatever reason, a refund will be given only if the student notifies TDQS at least one week (7 days) before the class start date.  This is because the teacher needs at least 1 week to prepare for the class, and the teacher and Thistle Dew incur expenses to set up the class.

"This funky design features a textured bird on an embellished tree branch, layered leaves, flowers, and berries. Construction of the tote utilizes layering of wools, velvets and cotton fabrics to create fun dimension and texture." Sandra Mollon has exhibited her exquisite quilts all over the U.S., including Houston and PIQF, and has won many awards. This class is open to all levels, and you can start the class at any time. In each class you will learn a new technique. ---- JAN - Getting started in applique, prepared edge applique technique, with hand sewing; recommended blocks: Ruched Rose Lyre or similar block with a vine and leaves. FEB - Ruched rose with optional rick rack center. This was Sue's BOM in 2015 and it is stunning! It features African animals, birds, insects, and trees, and uses many different layering and embellishment techniques. Have you always wanted to try Foundation Paper Piecing but did not know where or how to start? If so, then this Block of the Month is the class for you. In this class we will begin with the simpler blocks to get your feet wet and progressively get to the more complicated blocks. By the end of 2017 you will have a beautifully pieced quilt, a quilt to cherish for years and years, and a great understanding of foundation paper piecing as well. Foundation Paper Piecing is very accurate, very addictive, and a very fun way to quilt. This little wall hanging causes oohs and aahs from viewers of all ages. It brings back memories and is a very doable quilt. First, you build a barn, board by board. Then you put on the roof, do some thread painting, and voila, you've built a barn. Next, grow a mature tree, using fabrics, yarns, trims, etc. Sue has even used the webbing from an Easter ham on one of her trees! So don't miss out on the fun. You CAN do this. Can't quite get the hang of free motion quilting? Come join Beth as she shows you how to quilt with your walking foot. You will learn some basics of the walking foot, then move on to do some matchstick and crosshatch quilting. We will explore using some of your decorative stitches along with quilting some curves, circles, and radiating designs. Beth will demonstrate which templates you can use to make life easier. Have you ever wanted to try your hand at art techniques on fabric or make an art quilt? This 4-hour class will give you an introduction to printing on fabric so you can create your own surface designs that can be worked into any textile art project. These sessions are for advanced beginners and intermediate quilters. If you've done a little quilting, but still have questions, this is the class for you. (If you've never quilted before, you will take the Beginning Quilters' University classes on Wednesdays.) Beyond-beginner quilters may choose their own project, but must have completed a quilt top in this series and have their project approved by Judy. $20/class (Students must pay for 3 classes at a time - $60.) 3rd Tue or 3rd Sat of each month, 9:00 a.m.-noon or 1:00-4:00 p.m., Judy Cummings.

Kari has created her own wonderful design and used it for several years of beginning quilting classes. While making this quilt, you'll learn techniques beyond the usual beginning piecing, including curved piecing and applique (machine and hand). Of course, Kari will also cover all the other basics, too. Kari MacDonald, 1st Wed -OR- 1st Thu of the month, 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., $20/class, supply list. Students must sign up for three months at a time. The signup fee for the first classes will be $75: $15 registration fee and $60 for the first three classes. The blocks in the book are beautiful with simple stitches, but Beth will help you take yours to the next level by adding more embellishment stitches. "The most important thing in a dress is the woman wearing it." That's the theme of this Crabapple Hill Studio quilt. The 64-1/2 square quilt features 13 blocks of embroidered sundresses and a pieced border with Dresden plates and star blocks. Tuffets are all the rage! They can be whimsical, elegant, scrappy, or made to match any room. This is a 2-session workshop, and you'll have a completed tuffet at the end of the class! Session 1 is sewing and learning the technique to make the foundation pieced Tuffet cover. Covers are finished at home prior to Session 2. In Session 2, we assemble the upholstered form. The instructor will bring the tools needed for construction. Tuffeteers can purchase one of the instructor's finishing kits ($125) or gather the materials themselves. Pattern purchase is required ($28). You must be an intermediate quilter/sewer and have a good working knowledge of your sewing machine. Robyn designed this whimsical wall hanging. It's made of wool with fun embellishments and would look adorable in a nursery or a child's room. This beautiful pillow is the perfect introduction to wool applique. Beth will show you how to applique on wool and then teach several embellishment stitches to add dimension and a very unique look to your project. You will learn backstitch, chain stitch, bullion knots, French knots, and more.
