Class Cancellation Policy

To reserve a place in a class, the class fee must be paid at the time you register.  Thistle Dew Quilt Shoppe (TDQS) reserves the right to cancel a class if the required minimum enrollment is not met.  Earliest notification will be given and the participant may choose either a full refund or a TDQS credit.  

If a student cannot attend a class, for whatever reason, a refund will be given only if the student notifies TDQS at least one week (7 days) before the class start date.  This is because the teacher needs at least 1 week to prepare for the class, and the teacher and Thistle Dew incur expenses to set up the class.
All you moms, grandmas, and aunties ... come and join Susan and share patterns and ideas to make garments for your special little girl's American Girl (or other 18") doll. Susan will have lots of adorable clothes to share with you. Bring your sewing machine (or knitting needles, crochet hooks, etc.) and be prepared to be creative and have a great time. (4th Thursday of each month, 1:00 - 4:00 p.m.)

Without a doubt the Baltimore Album Quilt is a beautiful quilt with its origins dating to the mid 1850's in Baltimore Maryland. They will always be a favorite heirloom quilt. In this class all levels of students are welcome, as we start with some basic applique skills, and work our way through different techniques for dimensional flowers, inked and silk ribbon embellishments and ribbon and ruched roses. Most techniques are much easier than they look. Join Sandra and start your family heirloom today. Sandra Mollon, 4th Saturday, 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.. $40/class. Supply list. Class subjects -- October 27th: Sandra’s “Autumn’s Bounty Quilt Block”, pattern (squirrel in an oak tree) provided by Sandra. Learn to make the squirrel with a stuffed body and couched-on eyelash yarn for the tail. Sandra will also provide the small piece of yarn you need. Some embroidery stitches will be demonstrated for the acorns as well. November: “Sailing to Baltimore” block, pattern provided by Sandra. Learn to ink fabric for realistic shading of sails. Sandra will bring ink for you to try. December: Inked text and silhouette portraits on fabric.

These sessions are for very beginning quilters -- those who have never quilted before. You will use the book Quilting Row by Row to learn the basics of quilting and make a sampler quilt. $20/class (Students must pay for the first 4 classes at signup - $80.) 2nd Sun of each month, 12:30 -- 3:30 p.m. -OR- 4th Thu of each month, 5:30 --8:30 p.m. -OR- 1st Wed of each month, 5:30 - 8:30 p.m., Dana Lahargoue. The first Sunday class will be January 14, 2018; the first Thursday class will be January 25, 2018; the first Wednesday class will be March 7, 2018.

Learn how much fun it is to applique on wool and make your piece unique and beautiful using different stitches and threads. This beginning class will use Sue Spargo's small flower sampler. Judy has been teaching Sue Spargo classes for years, and is an expert at the techniques and a wonderful teacher. These classes fill up fast, so sign up soon. Here is another beautiful, usable Sue Spargo project. Join Judy for a fun class learning felted wool applique, fabric layering, and gorgeous embellishments with all kinds of threads and stitches. Come and help make blankets for the Sutter Roseville NICU. A blanket on top of an isolette helps retain warmth, muffles noises, and allows parents to easily identify their baby, and the blanket goes with the family when the baby's stay at the NICU is finished. Bring supplies to make a blanket of your choice (quilted, knitted, crocheted, fleeced, etc.) and a potluck dish to share. Finished blankets should be 36"x36". This is a good opportunity for young people looking to fulfill community service requirements. If you would like to donate supplies or participate on your own at home, contact Susan. 3rd Friday of each month, 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Join Jennifer (from our staff!) for two fun days of coloring and embroidery to create unique kitchen towels. Choose an embroidery/tinting pattern from Crab-apple Hill or Yesterday's Charm. In the first session, Jennifer will show you how to transfer the design to a kitchen towel and color the design (using crayons or color pencils). In the second session, you'll learn to add simple embroidery outlines to create a beautiful, colorful towel. These sessions are for advanced beginners and intermediate quilters. If you've done a little quilting, but still have questions, this is the class for you. (If you've never quilted before, you should take a Beginning Quilters' University class first.) Beyond-beginner quilters may choose their own project, but must have completed a quilt top in this series and have their project approved by Judy. $20/class (Students must pay for 3 classes at a time - $60.) 3rd Tue or 3rd Sat of each month, 9:00 a.m.-noon or 1:00-4:00 p.m., Judy Cummings.

Join Jennifer to make Crab-apple Hill's Winter Sampler, featuring evergreens, flowers, and snowflakes. This is a beginning embroidery class. (Jennifer will give you ideas for finishing the sampler, but the patchwork border will not be done in class.) First Friday, Oct 5, Nov 2, Dec 7, 9:00 a.m. - noon, Jennifer Adams, $60 for three sessions, supply list. (Students must purchase pattern and kit [wool and beads]).

This was the 2016 Sue Spargo BOM and features whimsical coffee cups. Judy will guide you through the process of creating your unique masterpiece using Sue's design. We have lots of wools and embellishment threads for you to work with. Some experience with wool applique and embellilshment is required. (This is not a beginning class.) Learn Hand Quilting - Start to Finish. Join Alice Calhoun on your handwork journey ... learn the techniques or improve your skills. This class includes piecing, applique, trapunto, and quilting ... all by hand! You may bring your own project or use one of Alice's design. She'll help you with whatever quilting handwork you want to learn. Alice Calhoun, 3rd Sunday, beginning May 20, 12:30 - 3:30 p.m., $25/session.

Another beautiful project from the book, "Gorgeous Wool Applique"! You'll learn how to applique on wool and enhance your project with different embellishment threads and stitches. Beth will also teach the "big-stitch" quilting technique to finish your project. Come and join Judy to stitch on Sue Spargo's 2018 BOM - Homegrown. You'll have the incentive to keep up with this beautiful block-of-the-month and be inspired by your fellow students. Select your own fabrics and embellishment threads to make your own beautiful organizer for your needles. Ruth Shields has been a Sue Spargo stitcher for many years and is an expert at making these needle rolls. Students must have Sue Spargo's Fresh Cut book for this class (for the pattern). This Sit and Sew is for students who have taken one of Judy Cummings' handwork classes and want to come and work on their project. This is not a teaching class or a beginning handwork class. Judy will be available for help only on her projects. Come for a couple of hours or stay all day. 2nd Sat of the month, 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., $10, Judy Cummings. (No August 2018 class)

Celebrate summer with this jewel-tone, whimsical wool sampler. The blocks in the book are beautiful with simple stitches, but Beth will help you take yours to the next level by adding more embellishment stitches. Come into the shop to see the samples, and we're sure you'll be hooked. You will sign up for three classes at a time (one block per class).
